Newton made the trip north to Concord, N.C., a Charlotte suburb, to join a young boy named Elijah at a Halloween block party in his neighborhood. The party was held a month early because doctors aren’t sure Elijah will make it to Oct. 31 to celebrate his favorite holiday.

Newton heard about Elijah’s story and decided to surprise the boy dressed as the Joker along with more than 100 other kids in costume celebrating Elijah — who happens to be an Auburn fan.
“As a mom it absolutely melts your heart,” Becky Hughes, Elijah’s mom, told WCNC. “It brings tears to my eyes.”
This wasn’t the first time Newton’s made dreams come true in the Charlotte area. He took a host of elementary students on a Christmas shopping spree in 2013, met a fan battling brain cancer in May 2014 and played catch with a young boy fighting a heart ailment in June.
