Call of Duty is also getting in on the holiday spirit, following the December 16th update adding a Festive Fervor event for Warzone’s Season 1 offerings. In addition to rewards, new challenges, and game modes, the update also brought with it the folklore creature Krampus. The evil creature’s goal is to actively hunt players in both Warzone and Vanguard multiplayer with a promise of a permanent reward for those who are able to take it down. Staying true to its origins, Krampus is causing chaos during play sessions and outright being more of a terror to players than originally expected.

It seems the Call of Duty Warzone fanbase is starting to become frustrated by the antics of Krampus and have taken to social media to vent. According to Activision, Krampus randomly picks its targets, though it is influenced by those who find a lump of coal from a holiday crate. Regardless, many feel the monster is too distruptive and actively costing players wins.
One Call of Duty: Warzone subReddit user named Dyynomight kicked off the venting with a new thread demanding that Krampus is removed immediately. He went on to say that the monster is a bullet sponge, ultimately ruining a great game where they claimed to be in a “top five situation.” Unfortunately for Dyynomight, Krampus joined in the hunt, overwhelming them while they were attempting to fend off actual enemy players.
Others have started to post similar sentiments, with some having to deal with the monster multiple times in the same match. Others have attempted to offer suggestions on how to improve the event. One suggestion sees Krampus going away completely in the later parts of a match, similar to when the Gulag closes. Another player mentions that Krampus should be sidelined for that match once a player takes it down instead of endlessly respawning.
Interestingly enough, it’s not just regular players being impacted by Krampus. In what may be an oversight, the Festive Fervor update has even been applied to private matches in Call of Duty: Vanguard, which means professional Call of Duty eSport players are experiencing these frustrations as well. With the CDL Challenge Cup coming up over the weekend, Krampus may be ruining competitive matches unless Raven can make a quick tweak.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
