In Warzone, this can be a difficult trick to master but can be worth it when saving a team or the helicopter itself. With the size of the helicopter’s hitbox to the touchy nature of the blades when impacting other objects, players have to be careful when piloting these aerial crafts.

In the video, Reddit user Proxy2-0 demonstrates how to avoid a locked missile. They start by attracting a missile lock of a nearby launcher and immediately deploy flares. Seeing that the missile was still locked on, they banked to the right immediately turning until they can see the incoming missile’s trail. Carefully, they turn below the missile causing it to loop around and forcing it on a second pass. At this point, the player decides to drop closer to the ground curving towards the bridge where they have the space for safe turning but can still cause the missile to impact something, stopping its assault. Turning sharply the missile barely misses the helicopter and instead impacts the frozen river allowing Proxy to fly away safe and sound.
Based on the video the goal seems to be to fly into the direction of the missile instead of away. If a player can clip below the incoming missile’s path they can force the loop and buy themselves a little bit of time. This strategy makes sense but many fans wonder why the flares did not work on the initial lock.
The flare seems to rely on distance to be effective. Pull the flare too early and nothing happens, too late and the helicopter explodes. Players in the comments recommend listening for the “sizzle” sound of the missile. When it sounds close enough then pull the flare. Do note that javelin missiles travel faster than others, and players will have less time to detect the “sizzle” sound.
Helicopters offer players a fast way to travel across the map, and once fans can master the dangers they can become a vital tool for survival and victory in Warzone. It is up to fans to determine the danger and risk associated with this particular mode of transportation.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
