In a recent interview, Campaign Director and Director of Zombies (yes, that is an actual title), Jason Blundell, admitted that there are a good amount of secrets and easter eggs that have yet to be discovered by fans. Surprisingly, there are secrets that fans have missed all the way back to the original mode which debuted six years ago in Call of Duty: World at War as well. While many of the mechanical secrets have been unearthed by players, some of the more obtuse and hidden ones are still waiting to be discovered.
According to Blundell, there’s still plenty left for fans to locate.
Easter eggs appear to be a big part of the design process at Treyarch, as each one is broken down into four classifications: Light, Medium, Heavy, and Impossible. The developers have even placed bets around the office as to how long it will take players to find specific secrets. Bludell even tipped players off half a year ago to the existence of many challenging easter eggs within the game, which should keep players busy for quite a while.
“Sometimes people go about it literally with Easter Eggs - in other words, I’m going to press X on this and I’m going to do that - and a lot of those have been discovered, because it’s the most obvious part, and once you start taking things apart they can look at it and go ‘oh that’s how you do it’. The Easter Eggs left on some of those earlier ones are now more spiritual-based ones, or kind of clues to things.”
There’s plenty of history to go back through for Zombie fans, though just recently, the Eclipse DLC pack arrived for Call of Duty: Black Ops III players on the PlayStation 4. In addition to four new multiplayer maps, the pack also introduced the next story piece for Zombies and it follows the events of Der Eisendrache. The latest map is known as Zetsubou No Shima, and it takes the original cast of characters to an island in the Pacific during World War II. Players will come across a secret lab which had been home to numerous (probably illegal) experiments, and no doubt contains a wealth of secrets to be discovered.
