This was confirmed in a report by Charlie Intel, with the Modern Warfare sequel reportedly being built using a brand-new engine. This same engine will be what powers the next Call of Duty: Warzone “experience,” which is being built as a companion to the Modern Warfare sequel. Problems in Call of Duty: Warzone started after the game tried to integrate content from Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard, so it makes sense that this new version will be tied to a single Call of Duty experience.

A release date for the new Call of Duty: Warzone experience wasn’t announced. It’s possible that it will launch alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 this fall, but it’s also possible that it will come some time after launch. After all, the original Call of Duty: Warzone game didn’t launch until about five months or so after the 2019 Modern Warfare game released.

Specific details on what fans can expect from this new Warzone experience weren’t revealed, but it’s said to be a “massive evolution of Battle Royale” with an “incredibly ambitious sandbox mode,” according to CharlieIntel’s reporting. What this means exactly remains to be seen, but fans should find out in the months ahead.

While a new Call of Duty: Warzone experience is in the works, it doesn’t mean that the current version of Warzone is being abandoned. On the contrary, Raven Software and Activision acknowledged that there were some serious missteps with introducing the Warzone Pacific map, and are apparently dedicated to fixing the game. Plenty more updates for the current version of Warzone are in store, though its fate after the new Warzone experience launches is unclear.

There were previous reports that the next version of Call of Duty: Warzone would be next-gen only, but that wasn’t clarified. Fans will just have to stand by for more information on the new Modern Warfare game as well as the next Warzone experience.
